IRENE E ZUMERLING

Irene Zumerling, 90 of Masontown PA, passed peacefully on July 1, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, West Virginia. Irene was born in Bessemer, Masontown, on October 18, 1933, to Anna (Belej) Zembar of Porac, Slovakia, and Andrew Zembar of Kosice, Slovakia. She was the Salutatorian of Germantown Township High School class of 1951. She was a bookkeeper at Kikta’s Furniture Store and a Loan Officer at Second National Bank until her retirement in 1998. Irene married her high school sweetheart, Michael A. Zumerling, in October 1953. Irene loved watching the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins on TV. Irene was an avid bowler at Klondike Lanes. She so loved family gatherings and traveling. She was loved by all and will be sorely missed. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Michael, Thomas and George; and sisters, Pauline Rider and Mary Bauccio and sister-in-law Frances Gordulic. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kathryn (Judge Robert Lesnick), Deborah (Art Vroman) Zumerling, Michael (Kim) Zumerling, and Steven (Patricia) Zumerling; five grandchildren, Robert (Amanda) Lesnick, Alexander (Asifa) Lesnick, Leslie (Michael) Wade, Michael E. (Danielle) Zumerlin, Nikolas Zumerling; nine great grandchildren, Robert “Joey”, Andrew, Hayley, Laith, Norah, Henry, Lydia, Gianna and Nico; and her sister-in-laws Marcella (Frank) DePinto and Connie (John) Gereg.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 5, and until 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 6, when prayers of transfer will be said, in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, Pennsylvania. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Of Assisi Parish Church, Masontown, PA with Father Tio Cortesano as celebrant. Interment follows at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.
