Leticia “Mary” Palermo Lucas 86, of Masontown, PA, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2025, after a long hospital stay, surrounded by her loving family.
Leticia (known as Mary) was born July 14, 1938 near Manila in the Philippines. Leticia was the daughter of Felicimo Palermo and Maria Macabante Palermo.
Leticia married George Lucas, Jr. on December 27, 1967. George was stationed at Clark Air Force Base in Luzon (near Angeles City) in the Philippines. Shared stories of their time spent together in the beautiful country while on strolls on the beach along with the wonderful people, the culture and the cuisine were so memorable and told, frequently.
Leticia arrived in the United States in February 1968. Home was always in Masontown, PA with her husband and their family. She was a loving wife and homemaker.
Leticia was a member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church in Masontown, PA. She was a Christian Mother for many years. She was a devout Catholic and lived a Catholic life as best as she could. Her Faith was evident, always. Attending Mass, praying the rosary each day and evidence of her Catholic Faith filled the home. During the last year, Leticia was only able to watch Mass on EWTN. Leticia enjoyed watching EWTN daily.
Leticia was very proud the day she became a United States Citizen. She has always been thankful for the life and opportunities she experienced living in the United States. Leticia was never able to return to her homeland but always talked about her time living there. She loved cooking her lumpia and fried rice at family gatherings and holidays. She was so happy to teach her family how to make the delicious dishes.
Leticia enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved her grandchildren; “Grandma Mary” was always present in their lives. She joined her families as they vacationed in Emerald Isle, North Carolina all together. She loved walking on the beach and being with the grandchildren and her family
Leticia loved to play Bingo. She enjoyed trips to the casino to play the slot machines. Leticia had many friends at the Senior Citizens Facility in Masontown, PA. She and her husband enjoyed the activities and fellowship. Leticia had many good friends in her life and she will be remembered with always having a warm smile and kind heart.
Left to cherish Leticia’s memory are her spouse, George Lucas, Jr.; her children: Maria Teresa (William) Lindsey; Patricia Ann Baisden (Eric Lefkowtz) and Diane Carol (Roger) Hartley ; her grandchildren: Mariah Violetta Lindsey, Zachary Sebastian Lindsey, Rachel Mae Hartley, and Hannah Grace Hartley; her brother Gerald (Ramey) Palermo and family in San Diego, California; her sister, Linda (Rusty) Doyal and family in Kingsland, Georgia; her sister-in-law Patricia Ann (Francis) Erminio in Chamblee, Georgia and her nephew, Kevin (Jenny) Erminio and family in Atlanta, Georgia.
Thank you to the staff who cared for Leticia at Uniontown Hospital – WVU Medicine, J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital and Mount Macrina Manor.
Family and friends will be received from 2 until 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 19, in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, where visitation continues from 9 until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said Thursday, February 20. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Masontown, PA. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Masontown, PA.
