Mary Anne Billcheck, age 80, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024. She had resided in Henrico and the surrounding area for 55 years, spending her last few years in Aylett, VA, where she was surrounded by friends in the Kennington community.

Mary Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Stephen M. Billcheck Jr., who passed away in 2019. She is survived by her sons, Steve Billcheck III (spouse Kim Alvin), John Billcheck (spouse Josanne), and her daughter, DeAnne Billcheck-Butler (spouse Erik). Mary Anne also leaves behind her grandson, Chase Mummau, and granddaughters Katie Schaub (spouse Eric), Emily Smith, and Shannon Smith. Her three siblings, Frank, John, and Patricia Maykuth, along with several nieces and nephews, mourn her loss.

Born in Bethesda, Maryland, on January 27, 1944, Mary Anne grew up in Masontown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Albert Gallatin High School in Point Marion, Pennsylvania, and later attended West Virginia University (WVU), where she met her husband Steve and earned a degree in Physical Education, graduating in 1966. Mary Anne was a lifetime member of the WVU Alumni Association.

Mary Anne was deeply committed to her community. She served as a life member of the National Rifle Association, as a rifle instructor. She was also a CPR, first aid, and water safety instructor for the American Red Cross. As a dedicated member of the Hermitage Band Boosters, she continued volunteering even after her own children had graduated from school. Her involvement extended to the Robert E. Lee Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where she received the Silver Beaver Award for her impact on youth.

Mary Anne’s nurturing spirit extended beyond her family. She was the unofficial “mom” to many kids and supported them through the Band Boosters, Boy Scouts, sports, and countless other activities. Christmas held a special place in her heart, and she delighted in sharing her joy with homemade cookies and festive ornaments. Her door was always open to friends and visitors.

Mary Anne began her career in teaching, which she loved, and she continued as a substitute teacher for many years. Later, she worked at Bank of America, finding fulfillment in her roles until her retirement after 24 years.

Her passion for football was contagious. Whether cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers or college football teams that were connected to close family and friends, Mary Anne’s enthusiasm influenced her children and especially her grandson Chase, who now pursues a career as a college football coach.
