Patrick James “Jim” Peavornick, 80, of Masontown, PA, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026, at his home.

He was born in Bellevue, PA, on February 13,1946, the son of the late Joseph and Ceil (Smearcheck) Peavornick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Patrick Logan; sister-in-law Marie Grant and her husband John; and sister-in-law Judy Gordon.

After graduating from high school, Jim attended California University and later worked as a Sales Representative for Rocko Oil Company. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, Third Marine Division, as a Radio Operator during the Vietnam Era, earning two Purple Hearts. Jim was a dedicated member of the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department, serving as both a Trustee and a firefighter for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the VFW. Jim had a deep love for fishing and cherished his time spent at the Outer Banks.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 53 years, Judith (Gordon) Peavornick; his daughters, Erin Prosser and husband Edwin of Pittsburgh, PA, and Heather Geho and husband Ryan of Charleston, South Carolina; his sister, Patricia Langley and husband Larry of North Carolina; brother-in-law Mike Gordon and partner Debbie; brother-in-law Sam Gordon and wife Debi; many friends; and his beloved dog, “Buddy.”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department or the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Family and friends will be received at the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, PA, on Tuesday, March 17, from 4–8 p.m. The Masontown Volunteer Fire Department will hold services at 6 p.m., followed by services by VFW Post 4584 and American Legion Post 423 at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until noon, the hour of service, in the Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA.
