Elaine Teresa Kovak, 87, of Masontown, PA, passed peacefully on January 8, 2024. She lived her final year of life at Marquis Gardens Place, Uniontown, PA. The family would like to thank the staff of Marquis. The kindness and help shown did not go unnoticed.

She was born in Ronco, PA on March 9, 1936, the daughter of the late Andy Choplick and Catherine (Verska) Choplick.

Elaine was a graduate of All Saints High School and Waynesburg College. Before retiring she was employed as an Accountant for Berish Insurance Agency, Pontorero Coal Company, Carmine Appliance, Carmine’s House of Furniture and Dolfi’s Restaurant.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Charles A. Kovak and her three brothers: Andy, Frank and Ollider.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Darlene Kovak Schiller of Pittsburgh, PA and her son Stephen C. Kovak of Masontown, PA. Elaine was the last member of her immediate family.

She was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Masontown, PA where she was the Choir Director and Church Organist for over 40 years and an Eucharist Minister. Elaine was a member of the Business and Professional Women (BPW), Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters, a social member of the Italian Club, American Legion and German Masontown Park Committee.

Elaine made a great impression and a grand entrance when she entered a room. She was one of a kind! We are all stories in the end, remembered by the adventures we had, the achievements we made on the people we loved. Elaine’s story sure is a good one.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. (The Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers will recite the Rosary at 3:30 p.m.) on Thursday, January 11, 2024, in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, PA. and Friday until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Fr. Anthony Cortado as Celebrant at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Masontown, PA. Interment follows at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Leckrone, PA.
