Frances Arlene Oravets, 87, of Masontown, PA passed away December 5, 2023 at her home with her loving family at her side.

She was born in Leckrone, PA on August 18, 1936, the daughter of the late Joseph George Sr. and Leona (Cunningham) Krofcheck.

Frances was a graduate of German Township High School, Class of 1955. She held various employment roles in her lifetime, the last with State Farm.

Along with raising her children, she was primary caregiver for her husband’s illness prior to his passing. She also cared for her parents, taking them into her home, in their last years of life.

She was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Masontown, PA. She devoted much of her time to St. Mary’s Church in Leckrone (now closed) which included: acting as Secretary, organizing the annual Mt. St. Macrina Uniontown retreats, member of annual Parish Bazaar Committee, Pastoral Church Council Officer, participating in the 100th Anniversary Committee, singing in Choir (she had a beautiful voice) and working the annual Fish Fry fundraiser.

She loved animals and in her lifetime gave a home to two dogs, Gumby and Archie. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends, whether it was an overnight bus trip or a vacation to Europe. She created many photo albums to preserve those memories as she took pictures of just about everything. Her smile and goodness will be forever missed.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Joseph G. Oravets, Jr. and her brothers: Joseph Krofcheck and Bernard Krofcheck. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter: Christal Oravets of Verona, PA. and son: Joseph J. Oravets and wife Charlotte of Masontown, PA.

Special thanks to her caregivers: her son Joey and his wife Charlotte, Wendy, Cookie, Tina, Grace, Marie and Amedisys hospice for guiding her on her journey to heaven.

Friends and family will be received in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH, JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Ave., Masontown, PA. Friday, December 8 from 3 – 7 p.m. and Saturday until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be held in the funeral home chapel, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Masontown, PA with Father Anthony Cortado as Celebrant.

Parish Rosary at 3 p.m. Friday

Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Leckrone, PA.
