George Rantovich, 81, of Masontown, PA, passed away November 6, 2023 at home with his family by his side. He was born in Masontown, PA the son of Nick Rantovich and Violet Nenni Kott, and was a graduate of Masontown High School Class of 1960.

Remembered as an outstanding athlete, being selected to First Team Class B All
W.P.I.A.L. football and basketball teams, and PA all-state football team, he attended California State Teachers College for 2 years then began work for J & L Steel Corporation – mining engineer division. He eventually became a mine foreman and then worked for 28 years as a federal coal mine inspector for MSHA. George was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish Masontown, former Vice President of Italo American Citizens Club in Masontown, former member of The Sons of Italy, Brownsville, member of The Springdale Golf Club and a former school director for the Albert Gallatin School District. George spent an amazing 41 years officiating high school basketball and football, as well as serving as president, vice president and member of board of controls for the Laurel Basketball Chapter and Yough Valley Football Chapter. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer and proudly recorded eight holes in one.

George is survived by his wife Sandy (Monaghan) Rantovich of Masontown, his son, G. Scott (Dedra) Rantovich, a corporate Vice President and tax attorney for ATI, of Venetia, and his most adored granddaughters, his “special K’s”, Kara of Philadelphia & Kendall, a senior at the University of Alabama. He is also survived by his beloved brother Roger (Regina) Rantovich, sister-in-law Virginia Monaghan, niece Melanie (Jason) Bradburn, and great nieces Quinn and Brecklynn Bradburn. He was predeceased by his good friend and brother-in-law, Edward Monaghan. He is also survived by and preceded in death by many of his Masontown Hawks and by many beloved family members and golfing buddies.

Tim, his adopted cousin and caretaker, as well as special cousins Nan and Sonia, and faithful helpers Lonnie and Elinor.

In lieu of flowers please remember George in the best of times doing what he loved with family and friends.

Friends will be received Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 2 until 7 p.m. in the JOHN S. MAYKUTH JR. FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, PA. and Thursday until 9:30 a.m. when Prayers of Transfer will be said followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Father Peter Guardiano as Celebrant at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Masontown, PA. Interment follows at Mt. Saint Macrina Cemetery, Uniontown, PA.
