Janic Gail Jesso Nefflen, 76, of Frederick, MD passed away Monday, July 27, 2026.

Janic was born in Masontown, PA. on March 13, 1950, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Louise (Rotharmel) Jesso.

She was a graduate of German Township High School, McClellandtown, PA and California State University, California, PA and Western Maryland University, earning both Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Elementary Education. Janic taught 3rd grade at Yellow Springs Elementary school in Frederick for 35 years. She educated over 4500 students. Jan was also a cub scout den leader, baseball coach, and after school tutor for many throughout Frederick County. She retired from teaching in 2012.

Upon retirement, Jan remained active in the community by working and volunteering with Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center of Frederick Auxiliary, Montevue Assisted Living, Frederick Women’s Civic Club, Alpha Delta Kappa Epsilon, Frederick County Reading Council, Meals on Wheels, Heartly House and the United Way of Frederick County. When not engaged in serving the community, she was active with the Frederick County Public School Retirees, Red Hat Group and other social groups of retired educators. She was a former member of Masontown United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Fred Norris Nefflen and sons: Benjamin T. Nefflen and wife Katy Lynn of Chambersburg, PA and Nathaniel Nefflen of Frederick, Maryland: her brothers: Nicholas Jesso of McClellandtown PA. and Timothy Jesso of Apollo Beach, FL.

Family and friends will be received Friday, August 14, 2026 from 1 – 3 p.m. in the John S. Maykuth Jr. Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Kenneth Haines officiating. Burial will follow in Jacobs Lutheran Cemetery, Masontown, PA.
