LOUIS WATKINS DAVIS
Louis Watkins Davis, 97 of Masontown, PA went home to be with his Lord on January 21, 2025.
He was born on August 21,1927 to the late Coy and Mary Margaret (Watkins) Davis in the home where he resided until his death. Lou was raised by his Grandparents, David & Catherine Watkins.
Lou, married the love of his life, Mary F. (Brechun) Davis, on December 16,1950, after a short courtship of six months. Mary proceeded him in death on February 20, 2007.
He is survived by this loving children, Robert (Bobby John) of Masontown; Carolyn Balsega of Smithfield; Louis and wife Laura of Lake Lynn; Peter and wife Nita of Lake Lynn; Mary Margaret Grassi and husband Jim of Masontown. Lou or “Pappy” as they so fondly called him, is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Lorna (Craig), JoAnn (Rob), Peter (Madeline) Ashley (Ryan), Lucas (Lauren), Lydia, Hillary (Frank) and John Charles and 12 great grandchildren, James, Max, Samuel, Oliver, Peter, Louisa Mary, Woodrow, Peach, Benjamin, Eleanor, Lyla and Luke Henry. Lou “Pappy” is also survived by four very special friends, who are more like family; Debbie Park, Debby Chellini, Kevin and Theresa Koast, who always found time to stop by and visit.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert, son-in-law Bruce Balsega, Sr. and grandson Bruce Balsega, Jr. Lou was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Lou was a member of the Masontown Brethren Church, American Legion, VFW, Masontown Fish & Game Club & Pal’s Club.
Lou was a WWII Veteran, joining the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 on September 29, 1944 and served actively until April 4, 1946. During his service he was stationed in and served on NTS Great Lakes, IL; Beach Battalion “F” ATB Oceanside, CA; Beach Battalion “B” ATB Oceanside, CA; USS North Carolina and USS Philadelphia. While on the USS North Carolina, he served as a Signalman. At the time of discharge Louis’s rank was Seaman First Class. He received the Pacific Theater Ribbon (1 Star), American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal awards.
Lou’s most recent accomplishment was receiving his high school diploma from Albert Gallatin High School with the class of 2024. He was a devoted Husband, Father, and Pappy to his family and all he came in contact with. Family was the most important thing to Lou and he instilled that value into his children and grandchildren. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone that asked. For many years he spent time gardening and planting flowers around his home; some of which continue to bloom each year. He enjoyed many years of supporting his kids and grandkids in their athletic and scholastic activities. He always stressed the importance of family and had a strong faith in Jesus.
Lou’s family would like to thank Twin Oaks Home Care and Masontown Amedisys for the excellent care that they provided to our Father and Grandfather; specifically Betty, Deanna, Cindy, Rose, Brenda, Kathy & Delphia.
Family and friends will be received at the John S. Maykuth, Jr. Funeral Home on River Avenue in Masontown, PA on Thursday, January 23rd from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and viewing at the Masontown Brethren Church on Friday, January 24th, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with funeral services being conducted by Rev. Benji Zylka at 11:00 AM. Interment at Jacob’s Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery Masontown, PA. with military rites accorded by American Legion Post 423 and VFW Post 4584
